Letters to Our Children

Each month, a group of moms get together for a Letter to our Children.

Dear Pookah,

In exactly ONE week you will be 6.

I will have spent 6 years of my life being your Mama.

I love you.

I am so proud of you.

I love your honesty. How even if I don’t ask, you tell me you got in trouble at school for talking.

I love your reasoning for it ” God made mouths for talking Mama” ( side note, how do you argue with a child who says things like that????)

I love how when I come to wake you up in the morning, you pull the covers back over your head.

I love your laugh.

I love how all of your toys have different voices. Honestly, I can spend hours listening to you play.

I love how you interact with your friends.

I  even love how on the weekends, you have started to tell me you are going to watch cartoons instead of insisting that I come downstairs with you at 630 am.

You are growing up.

At times, I am thrilled at any show of independence( and the opportunity to sleep in).

And then at other times, I just want you to stay a baby.

Because I know that one day, you won’t need me to make sure you brush ALL of your teeth. You won’t need me to make sure you washed all of the special places. You won’t need me to cook your food, or teach you to clean your room or teach you how to tie your shoes.

You won’t need me the way you do now.

I think I’ll be ok with it when that day comes.

But for now, I’ll enjoy the way you ask me all the questions, how you think I know everything, how you NEED me for a lot of things.

I’ll enjoy you being YOU.

I love you.

Love Mama

Awww, your baby is growing up. Funny I am looking forward to more independence from my kids. Does that sound crazy? And how smart is he "God made mouths for talking" LOL. Say it again Pooka but not during class. Ok. LOL
