The End Of An Era?

My boy has four teeth coming in!!! He is soooooo cranky and is not sleeping well at all! I feel like we went backwards in terms of sleeping.  He just keeps waking up. Sigh.  I’m back to being soooooo tired.

In addition to Pookah not sleeping, I noticed that my milk supply seems to be decreasing.  Or maybe it’s just that he requires more than I have to give.  I notice that he will suck and suck, and when nothing more comes out, he just smack my boob and gives me a WTH look.

I gave him formula for the last few nights while I was at work.  I couldn’t pump enough, so he needed a supplement.

And he took it.

He guzzled it down like it was manna from heaven.

Sigh.

Is this the beginning of the end?

The end of our breastfeeding relationship?

On the one hand, I am like:

YES!!!! FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the other hand, I find myself strangely sad that this special relationship might be coming to an end.  It’s our bonding time.  I admit that I love it most of the time.  And I would have no problem continuing until my planned 12 months if there was enough to go around.  But,

 He.Is.Always.Hungry.

I know he is probably going through a growth spurt, but this started before he started the growth spurt unfortunately.   So, I think my days of exclusive breastfeeding are over.  We lasted 9 whole months.  Longer than I ever ever expected to.

My baby is growing up.

I should be happy right????????

I am experiencing similar things with breastfeeding Kaua. I'm worried he's not getting enough milk and have been supplementing too...he'll take the bottle but usually reverts back to my nipple as comfort...so sometimes I'll breast feed first, then follow up with a 2oz bottle just in case he's still hungry....most of the time, he'll just drink 1 oz of the bottle, but at least i know he's getting enough milk.

Have you tried increasing your supply with any teas? fenugreek? oatmeal? Worked for me when I went back to work :)

I've tried it all. Fenugreek is what has kept me going for this long! I eat oatmeal everyday. the tea did nothing for me. I drink LOTS of water. I tried. REALLY tried!

So cute and funny. Trust me the era would have ended as soon as one of those new little teeth would have bitten you, they grow so fast!...don't *blink*. :)

Aww! I know the feeling! My little guy is teething again now but the first time was around 7 months! Unfortunately, he and my milk supply made a pact to stop our routine too. It gets better though. You should be happy that he's growing up but it's ok to cry about it too. ;)
