The Newbie Chronicles: Photography tips for newbies!

Self Portrait

Self Portrait

If you’ve been living under a rock, then you don’t know that I love photography and all things involved in learning about it.  That being said, I’m going to start a new series on My Life called The Newbie Chronicles: Photography Tips for Newbies. I figured, everyone should have the knowledge to take great photos.  And if I get a little knowledge, I believe in paying it forward and sharing whatever I learn.  Sooooo. Every now and then( about twice a month) I’ll share a tip.

So the theme of this month( February) is the exposure triangle: Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO.

But until next week, my first tip is this:

Take your camera off of auto, and shoot in manual.

It seems daunting, I know. But TRUST me, it’s the best thing you could ever do.

Yes, your photos might get worse before they get better.

But it’s worth it guys.

I love that advice. I'm new to photography (I've only had my Canon 2 weeks now). For me it's sometimes frustrating when my cam is in AF mode to get certain shots, some from day 1 I've realized sometimes you need to switch to manual mode. I look forward to your tips and tricks. By the way, is it the t2i you have? and if you don't mind me asking, what size lens? Great post, much luv from Makeda

I have the t3! And I take my photos with my 50mm 1.8. The "nifty 50" they call it.

I take lots of pictures and some look great but some ... not so much. The idea of putting my camera on manual makes me break out in hives .... I'll be checking back here quite a bit to get more help! Thanks
