Why CJ won't be staying with my inlaws anytime soon…..

So.  The visit.  Is OVER!

It started out innocently enough.  C-Dub took the day off.  It was a beautiful day!  I was well rested due to the 6 hours of sleep that Pookah let me have.  Pookah and I took a walk around the neighborhood, C-Dub did some yard work.  It was a good morning.

Then, they arrived.

Of course, the first thing that brother-in-law #2 wants to do is to pick Pookah up.  Now Pookah has a bit of stranger anxiety.  Yes, he’s met them before, but that was when he was 1 month old.  He does not remember.  So what happens, he cries bloody murder.  Mother-in-law doesn’t want to wait either.  He screams bloody murder.  I try to explain the stranger anxiety, but get the  “ya’ll are coddling that boy too much, not letting no one have him.”

Strike 1.

So they gifts start to flow.  Pookah got a walker( I didn’t really want one, but ok.) a really gaudy purse( come on, neon orange?) and toys and clothes.

Pookah gets used to everyone, smiles goes willingly to everyone.

My father in law comes over and the Pookah goes right to him.   They have a great visit.

I go to work.

Lo and behold, I call to check on Pookah and he is still awake at 1000 PM.

WTF??? His bedtime is 8 pm!!!

C-Dub told me they were making so much noise that every time the boy was on his way to sleep, a cackle(my mother-in-law’s), a door slamming(one of my brother in-laws) or a shout.  So, he didn’t sleep until the boys left to go to a hotel(Thank God for that).

So when I casually mention it the next day, the comment was,

“See, that baby should be able to sleep through anything! Ya’ll should have been running a vacuum cleaner and making noise the whole time so that he can sleep through any noise!  That’s a problem!”

Well, considering that there are only the two of us living here, and we don’t make a whole lot of noise on a good day…….

Strike 2.

and the commenting on our parenting( but mainly my mothering) continued.

I give myself credit that I didn’t curse her out, but a few snappy responses did escape.

But the end all came when C-Dub happened to mention that they boy hadn’t had a bowel movement in 7 days .  Now she had been harping on me all day Friday about giving the Pookah sweet potatoes.  Why sweet potatoes? That boy needs some fruit to help him go. OK, I can buy that,  After all, I’m not opposed to advice.  But C-dub and I had discussed it.  Apples were not part of the equation for now.  I had noticed the Pookah getting a rash afterwards on his face and his eczema seemed to get worse.  So I stopped giving him applesauce/apples.  Just to see.  The rash and the eczema got better.

Anyway, after work on Friday night, I slept all morning. I woke up to feed the boy and noticed……

A rash.  WTF?

I go downstairs, and notice…………a jar of open applesauce.

As casually as I could I ask C Dub, ” You gave him some applesauce?”

MIL answered” Got to get that poop out! Them sweet potatoes won’t go do nothing!”

Once again, I calmly try to explain that the Pediatrician was aware of his lack of poops and was Ok with it.  And Pookah was OK with it too.  She went through a whole list of things we should do (warm prune juice etc) and ended with, “these young folks today always listening to the dr, go end up with these wimpy sick babies.”

STRIKE 3

And of course, C-Dub avoided eye contact and I didn’t curse him out until AFTER they left.

So Saturday night we ordered the fight and had everyone over.  Including my sister-in-law and my father in law.

Now, normally, I really really love my sister-in-law.  She is really cool, and just bought a house right down the street from us.

But even she was loosing her mind.

For instance  Pookah’s bedtime is 8pm.  No if and’s or but’s about it.

At 8 pm, I was waiting for the wings to be done to take him to bed.  The wings had about 10 minutes left.

She kept saying, why can’t he stay up??? He’s got all these people here!

And MIL was consigning all the way, “yeah, let that boy stay up and he’ll sleep longer tonight!”

(WTF by the way)

So anyway.  I calmly state that no.  To bed he will be going.

I got more grumbling for both of them before I finally snapped and said, “well, you two wont be here tomorrow when he doesn’t want to go to bed at 8pm, and you all won’t be waking up when he gets up at  1 am.”

Then later on, SIL kept wanting to go upstairs and “look” at Pookah while he was sleeping.

Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!

Hell no is what I thought, but I firmly said no to that one.  Luckily, C-Dub backed me up on that one.

Soooo, staying at SIL house is now in doubt too……

Anyway.  I went to bed early, and left the crew downstairs screaming and carrying on.

I come downstairs the next morning, food from the party is still out all over the counters, and MIL is asking what’s for breakfast.

Say it with me folks….

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

Luckily, they left to go back to Mississippi at noon.

But they left us with a cranky overstimulated baby who screamed and screamed before passing out finally for 3 hours.

Geez.  I am so done.

omg i would have been RAAAGGGGINNNG. This was making my blood boil just reading it. Why do in laws think they know how to raise a baby better than we do?

I'm with Christina. But we've covered my MIL issues before. And my husband is starting to see that she's crazy. Applesauce that causes a rash. When a glycerin supp will do the job in the event he needs it. OH. HELL. NO. I would have ended up on the news. Bless you, you must be a saint. C-Dub needs to grow a pair. Bless his heart.
