A New Frontier…….Again…..

I know I talk a lot about how much I hate daycare.  I think a lot of it just has to do with the fact that I don’t think that anyone can take care of Pookah like I can.  His current daycare has been on the line between strike two and strike three for a while now.  And last week, they finally got to strike three.

It was a gradual thing really.  It started one morning when I dropped Pookah off at daycare. Pookah is the type who has to warm up to folks.  Always has been. Unless you are really special.  So, the kids want to touch him and get up on him, and he is NOT having that first thing in the morning.  Which I thought was really  strange because Pookah normally likes ALL kids.  But anyway, to make a long story short, one of the teachers snatched up the child who tried to touch him.  And you know what I mean by “snatched up”.  My main problem was that if you do this to this child in FRONT of me, what are you doing to my child when I’m not around?

But I thought I was being over sensitive.

The next thing I noticed was that Pookah didn’t like this teacher.  Hmmmmmmmm.

And the class seemed to be getting larger everyday.  I counted 14 kids one morning.  That’s waaaaay too big.

And then, one day, I got a report that Pookah was biting.  I asked what happened when the incidents took place.  Turns out Pookah was defending himself.  Not that that makes it right, but its good to get the whole picture.  I asked, so what can we do? And got a blank stare.  No one knew.  No one had any answers.  I guess they just snatched him up and hoped he learned from that. #FAIL.

The last and final nail in their coffin was one afternoon last week I got THE call. You know, the ” Pookah got a hold of a couple of cheetos and we gave him benadryl”call.

My problem with this was:

  1. Who gives toddlers Cheetos? isn’t that a choking hazard?
  2. Cheetos are made of corn, so actually, he could have it.
  3. But once again, you weren’t paying close enough attention to my child and he got into a potentially life threatening situation because you were not paying attention.
That was the straw that broke this camels back.  The very next day, I started searching.  It’s hard to find good daycares in my area that are close enough to the house that I can get to him easily and that are GOOD.  Case in point we’ve been through 2 daycares in 2 years.  SMH.
So I searched and searched and everything was too much, or just not happening.  I was lamenting about it at work and one of my Dr friends causally mentioned the preschool that her son 26 months goes to.  The price was right, it was close enough, and we had a tour.
I’m impressed.
The school had everything I was looking for.  Including the fact that Pookah will be child #5 in the classroom.  His teacher is CERTIFIED.  She went to school. Has a degree in early childhood education.  She had 4 BOYS of her own.  She KNOWS.  I’m in love with her after just having one 20 minute talk with her and the headmistress.  So, yesterday, I gave notice at the current daycare, and on Monday, Pookah will be going to his new school.  I have my fingers crossed.  I’m sending up prayers.  I know no place will ever be PERFECT, but I want as close to it as I can get.

Good luck with the new spot!

Lewis is like that with other kids in the morning. They are becoming much more social at this stage and his little friends come over to greet him all excited in the AM. He is always like "Back up off me!"

Not again. I hope 3 times the charm and he can stay with this daycare. I am going to start looking for daycare in the new year as I will be taking on more classes so I will need the break but this right here is making me miss having a grandma or someone close who can keep my baby and I don't have to worry as much.

I wish my mother lived by!!! I wouldn't have this problem! I'm praying so hard that I don't have to move this boy anywhere else until it's time for kindergarten
