Currently

It’s the last day of the month, so it’s time for this month’s edition of Currently!

So I’m Currently……

Watching: Nothing. I didn’t have time. BUT I am getting ready to start watching the Good Wife now that I’m almost done with House of Cards. I’ve heard good things, hopefully, I won’t be disappointed.

Listening to: Marcia Ambrosius New CD. I didn’t even know she had a new CD out until I heard her version of Sade’s Stronger than Pride. Using samples from Jeru The Damaga’s “Come Clean” and Sade’s “Love is Stronger Than Pride.” makes this just EVERYTHING.  I could have done without Dr Dre’s appearance on the song( which is sad, I am here for Dre,but not on this song).  I never thought anyone could remake a Sade song well, but she did that.

Planning: A possible trip to Blogalicious. I’m plotting, planning, trying to figure out how to get there. I’ve got an iron in the fire. I’ll let you know if it pans out…

Thinking About: BlogHer. This year’s BlogHer was….different I’ll say. I’ve read a lot of recaps this week and I almost feel like some of us went to two different conferences. Some folks were inspired, on fire, ready to go forth and do great things. Others…not so much. I fall somewhere in between.  I think, since my experience was only a one day experience, I have to take that into account. I mean, seeing Kerri Washington was a highlight for sure. And unexpectedly, so was listening to Ariana Huffington. The thing that spoke to me the most was her quote” We have to stop glamorizing being busy.” Which really resonated with me. How many times have you seen a tweet that someone is up late” grinding” or “getting in”. At all times of day and night. Talking about how they don’t get much sleep because they can sleep later. Maaaan. I tried to be about that life for a hot minute but I had discovered that I’m not made like that. I need my sleep. I need my family time, my me time. I will of course be grinding, but at a slower pace. Because I don’t want to look up years from now and be divorced.  Or look up and see a  Pookah that is older and not wanting or needing to talk to me because I was ” grinding” so hard. I think really, she was trying to say :balance is the key.  But anyhoo, my BlogHer experience was not the best in my opinion, but I did unexpectedly get more out of it than I thought I did. Does that make sense? Will I go next year? Time and my bank account will let me know.

Looking Forward To: Training for my first 1/2 marathon. Yes, that’s right, I’m running the Disney Princess in February. I got inspired by Nellie and training starts tomorrow. Well, I’m gonna run tomorrow. I start training officially on Tuesday. YIKES. I wasn’t going to say anything, but I decided I needed accountability. About once a month, I’ll update you on how that’s going.

Reading: New Blogs. This is one of the best things to come out of BlogHer or any conference that I go to: I always find new people. In this case, I met a lot of people I follow on instagram and surprise surprise, they have blogs! Why haven’t I followed them? SMH

Making Me Happy: One more thing: at BlogHer, Artifact Uprising had a giveaway for a $500 credit for their products. AND I WON!!!!!  Do you know how excited I am??? Do you know how many books and photos I can order with that???? I have PLANS!  I was going through the photos and found this one that I hadn’t edited for some reason. I’m going to definitely print this one out!

So that’s what’s currently going on in my world, how about yours? Did you go to Blogher? What did you think? What conferences are you planning to go to next year?

Congrats on winning the giveaway!

I'm excited for the Disney run. Maybe you'll inspire me. For some reason, I avoid running. I dunno. Odd.

I have learned to balance my busy. I only grind when my kids are asleep. I need to give them and their dad my attention and time. It means that I don't get as much done or make as much progress as I would otherwise but it's cool. Progress is still being made and that's what matters.

And that's the end of this blog post of a comment! LOL!

Oh, I LOVE that picture. You're right, totally frame-worthy!

Well I am busy at night working lol I gotta make that money but school has started so my night shifts will end because my kids education is more important I don't want them to live like me at all. I don't do conferences for me it would only be to meet people everything they say has already been said on these streets very little is brand new.

I love that quote "We have to stop glamourizing being busy" - that is something I need to adopt as my life motto! I see all these blogs, girls running around and I think HOW!? I mean I feel like I can barely do what I do without going a little crazy I can't imagine even more!

Congrats on the gift card and good luck with training. I didn't go to BlogHer but I think the biggest complaint that has been said year after year is thAt the conference is too big and no longer has an intimate feel. I've also read about a lot of bloggers running into snobby bloggers (both on panels & off) and having a bad taste left in their mouths. For me, this information does make rethink attending a BlogHer conference in the future. I like to get my money's worth of everything that I purchase and would be disappointed if I didn't.
