On Good Intentions and Photography Projects

_

So seriously.

On January 1, 2016, I took a photo. And then I took a photo everyday thereafter…..for about 30 days.

Then I kinda sorta decided that iPhone photos counted too.

And now, in the beginning of March, I admit defeat.

Well, maybe not defeat, but a definite regrouping.

I’ve got ANOTHER photography project in mind that might fit my life more because friends, no matter how I try, a 365 with my Canon is not it. At least not right now.

Plus, it doesn’t help that I feel like Im in a rut creatively.

I read a post on Facebook by Erin Hensley about ruts that said:

[Tweet "They are an inevitable part of any creative's life....They are frustrating as hell, but necessary."]

I’m trying to remember that. And remember that just because the blogger who blogs about photography and photography projects can’t complete a 365 with her big girl camera or her own Project 52, the world will not end. ( hides face).

I do take photos. Just not everyday.

I’ll get back on the horse soon…

I promise.

It always sounds good to me to do a 365 project, but I know it's not realistic for me. I would end up with quantity over quality. And for me it would become a chore rather than something I love to do or want to do when truly inspired.

If I fall off I am okay at least you tried many don't even try. Do a photo when you feel like it. You still took a photo that week or that month....so you are still capturing something to look back on later.

I always read quotes on writing like you HAVE to write everyday. Why? No you don't. Write when you feel. Should be the same with all art, right?

The fact that you inspired others (namely ME) from your past projects to actually complete their first is MAJOR! Grant yourself grace for the downtime and get back to it when you can.

I completely understand you. I felt like this too. I missed 2 days in February and had to do multiple day catch-ups twice...I almost threw in the towel. But then I realised that when I wasn't taking a photo for my prompt, it felt like something was missing. I was taking other photos but it wasn't the same. I realised I needed something else...so I incorporated the "project within a project". So this week, my prompts must all be expressed with food...aaahhh!

Don't worry though, we're here for you and enjoy your photos always, prompt or no prompt. It's about the journey I keep hearing, and it really is just that, a journey!

Have a lovely day, iPhone, Canon or whatever!
