How to spend $75 for someone to tell you something you already know…..

So, yesterday afternoon, when Pookah threw back his head for a blood curling yell, I saw it:

White Spots.

All over his lips, and all over his tongue. It’s ironic really, because a couple of weeks ago, i was patting myself on the back for escaping this one baby affliction.

But of course, that was before the ear infection, and before the Amoxicillin.

Thrush it seems, has finally come to visit.

So, I would have waited until Monday morning and gone to the doctor first thing.  But C-Dub gets anxious about his boy.  Real anxious.

“Want to take him to the ER?”

Ah, noooooo………

“There is that new urgent care center up the street.”

Hmm, that might work.

Keep in mind, I’m in a sleep deprived haze right then, since I had just worked the night before.  So I actually agreed to this nonsense, and furthermore, thought it was a good idea.

Yeah right….

My first clue should have been the sign on the check in window( which was closed):

Don’t knock, we see you.

Yeah.  It took 30 minutes for someone to come to the window to check us in.  Then, we waited another 30 minutes before she called me up to ask me for a co-pay

$75

WTF?

We waited another 30 minutes to get back to a room, where we waited yet another 45 minutes before the Nurse Practitioner came in.  Of course, by then, Pookah had had his ” I’m sleepy and hungry” melt down and gone to sleep.

The Nurse Practitioner came in.  I recognize her, because I used to work with her.  (Nursing is such a small world).  She asked me what was wrong.  I told her my diagnosis and that we needed some Nystatin.

She wrote me the script, we played catch up for a few minutes and we were out.

C-Dub looked at me and said,

“Damn, if you could write prescriptions, we could have kept our $75.”

So so true.

I saw your tweet about diaper rash. It might be a yeast rash, related to the thrush. You can use a clotrimazole cream (for jock itch) twice a day to remedy it.

Dang! I so hope this healthcare reform gets moving real soon!! But ummm does this mean that we'll just do the two years and become an NP ourselves?!?!?!? Sounds good to me!
