The Last Summer Weekend….

Our last summer weekend was a last weekend getaway to the beach!
all of us on the beach in Destin

Ahhh summer…….

I’m so sorry to see it go! We’ve had lots of adventures this summer but I think this last one was my favorite.  We headed down to the Seaside/Santa Rosa Beach area in Florida for a nice weekend away. And despite the rain and the Deebo-ing of my iPhone by the ocean, it was wonderful.

My mother hadn’t been to a beach in at least 25 years. I don’t know why we never vacationed to the beach when I was younger, but the last time we went as a family, was to a little lake right outside of the DC area. It was so wonderful to see her rest and relax and to have someone( other than Pookah) willing to go to the beach in the early morning hours with me and to see her enjoy it.

And even though my iPhone lived in a bag of rice the entire time, I did bring out my Canon to document our time there.

We stayed in a little condo right across the street from the beach, and it was perfect.

But because I wasn’t constantly documenting with my phone or checking Facebook, or Instagram, or Snapchat, I was more in the moment than I usually am on vacation. And that made it that much more memorable.  Because I realized that even though my vacation wasn’t documented to death on social media…it did happen. Even though I didn’t get all of the video and photos that I might have wanted, I remember everything in my head. I remember the smell of the ocean and the feel of the sand between my toes.  I remember the joy on my mother’s face as she walked the shore.  I remember the sound of  Pookah’s wild giggling as wave after wave crashed against him.  I’ll remember our time together….

It was a great trip…the perfect end to our Summer weekending….
