On Asthma, Fainting and ER visits…

Pookah stayed home from school on Tuesday because he had a bad cough. It sounded like it was rattling around in his chest. Eww. I figured he needed a breathing treatment and some down time and he would be back to normal the next day.

Wednesday morning at 615, I was dressed and getting ready to wake Pookah up to get him ready when I heard him coming down the stairs. When I say I heard him coming down the stairs, I mean I heard him BREATHING coming down the stairs. He was short of breath and he was breathing waaaay too fast. I thought about giving him a breathing treatment, but decided that going in to see his Pediatrician would be a better option. Meanwhile, Cdub came downstairs to ask me if I heard Pookah breathing and I told him I was taking him to the dr. CDub went back upstairs and I heard him yelling,

“SHAWN HELP! COME QUICK HELP”

I grabbed 50 pound Pookah and raced up the stairs to find CDub collapsing on the floor.

SHIT

I yelled at him, pushed his head down in between his knees and waited. He came around. I gave him a banana to eat thinking his blood sugar was low and went and got Pookah dressed. Came back, he was trying to stand up again but was loosing color and sweating as he did.

SIGH.

So I helped him get dressed and put both of them in the car.

I dropped CDub off at the ER and then took Pookah on to the dr.

Who by the way, was alert, but struggling more by now.

And coughing up a storm

I get him to his pediatrician and she takes one look and was back out the door,

“I need a breathing treatment STAT!”

My baby was having an asthma attack and I didn’t even know it.

She said later that it was a mild asthma attack and it was good I got him there before it got worse. But now, he’s officially an asthmatic and we have a follow up “asthma” appointment next week to talk about a asthma plan of action.

It’s amazing to me how much better he was after the treatment and the steroids. The cough was basically gone.

And Pookah was OFF THE CHAIN. Hyper does not even begin to describe it.

So, I call CDub to check on him in the ER and he’s still waiting. He’s got an IV and they’ve drawn labs but that’s it.

Pookah and I drop off his prescriptions and head home to wait on CDub to be done.

It was only 945.

I had to give Pookah another treatment and then do battle to get his hyper ass to take a nap.

CDub caught a cab home from the ER. And then passed on the couch only to be useless for the rest of the day. He has an inner ear infection.

I escaped briefly to Walgreen’s to pick up Pookah’s prescription and to fill CDub’s. But do you know CDub called me while I was there talking about: Pookah is crying for you, when are you coming back? Forget about the prescription. Just come back.

*crickets*

I am not ashamed to say I picked up a bottle of wine and a package of cookies while out.

I came home, fixed dinner, cleaned( hell, I was home) and amused Pookah who was by now bouncing off the walls from the effects of the steroids all day long.

By the time he finally went to sleep last night, I was exhausted. Too exhausted to enjoy/drink my wine. But not too exhausted to stuff two cookies in my mouth.

But it doesn’t end there! The boy woke up at 330 am because he couldn’t breathe and didn’t settle down back to sleep until 6. I was going to leave them both home today but CDub is still dizzy and I can see him passing out and my baby not being able to call me.

Nope. Naw.

So I’m stuck home with these two again today. Pookah is on the mend, but still gets winded easily. (It’s hard to keep a normally active 3 year old down) CDub…….is in the bed…….

Sheesh! Talk about a crazy day! Just so we're clear, only a woman can do this many things at the same damn time! And shame on you for not drinking your wine...you earned that! LOL! Hope the boys are doing better!

Pookah really "bounced" back didn't he? Our men can be such babies when they get sick, can't they? Glad everybody is on the mend.
