They say, EYES are the windows to the soul. In portraits, eyes can really MAKE your photograph. Have you ever wondered what makes a certain portrait special? What makes it sing? Well, I’m here to tell you that  Capturing catchlights is the key.

What are catchlights? A Catchlight is when your light source is reflected in your subject’s eyes. They give your subject’s eyes life. They make them sparkle.

How to capture catchlights

 

Settings: f/3.2 Shutter Speed 1/400 ISO 800 

Tip: An easy way to capture catchlights when you are outside is to use open shade or a tree or in this case, a garage. Have your subject stand just on the edge of where the shadow meets the light. Make sure your subject is facing the light and….

This face! I just can't get enough. He is one handsome guy. You are in big trouble in a few years girl. I'll start praying for you now. I love the catchlight tips. Had no idea what that was called. Will have to try it although I know Zoe won't stay still. LOL
