Sleep chronicles: Part Trois

A quick update:

I got the cereal.  But never used it.  That night, Pookah slept 5 hours in a row.   The next night, he only woke up once also.  But of course, last night, he woke up every 2-3 hours again.  He went down at 830, woke up at 1030, 130, 530 and 8am.

I am soooooo tired! My only saving grace is that most of the time, he just wants to eat when he wakes up.  He usually eats and goes right back to sleep.

I am debating the cereal again.  I was going to try to move him into his room next week, but now I don’t know!  I mean, I don’t want to have to keep getting up out of the bed that many times a night!  Someone I know also uses a white noise machine.  I am going to get one this weekend for when he goes down in his own room.

As for the cereal, he IS almost 4 months.  He is 14 weeks now.  Hmmmmmm

I don’t know what to do!!

I guess I should look into some type of sleep training or something.  But the very idea turns me off.  My mother is no help, because of course, we were all sleeping through the night by 6 weeks due to “barley cereal in the bottle”.

Yeah. OK.

I often wonder, why have the rules changed over the years?  My mother started us on fruits and cereals around 1 month.  And this was still the norm in the 80s.  We didn’t have any allergies, or problems.

Modern technology has me scared to do what my mother and aunts and cousins have done for YEARS.

But then again, I am the first to breastfeed since my grandmother.

Sorry, this post just rambles.

I’ve got to go now.  I really want to lay down and sleep, but my house is in shambles.  I need to at least attempt to clean it while the Pookah is down.

Till next time…….

You might try reading the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. It addresses all of these things. A PA I work with used the techniques and now her little one grabs a book and goes to bed when he's tired. He's not quite 2 yet. Sounds good to me!

I say follow your heart...and his tummy. Science isn't always right and raising children is trial and error anyway. Hope he gives you a break tonight and sleeps longer. GG ;)

The rules have changed because more research has been done. A few decades ago pediatricians were telling their patients not to breastfeed and to introduce solids early. Now they are making recommendations a bit more in line with the science. It is currently recommended that babies be exclusively breastfed for 6 months.

Would it hurt your baby to be given cereal early? Probably not. Will it make him sleep through the night? Maybe not. That's the stress on us mothers. It's up to us to decide and we blame ourselves for the outcomes.
