Taking it Back……

Veronica over at is  hosting a meme today about looking back at a post or a photo from last year. I decided to do a photo because….well you know why!!

I rarely look back on my photography journey so far. But I have to remind myself that just last year, I was JUST starting to play around with my camera.

I was interested if I took any photos with my Canon this time last year, and I looked through my archives and found this photo:

My Two Favorite Men

I think I had JUST gotten my camera about a month before.  So this is shot in auto with my Kit lens( the lens that comes with the camera). White Balance is off, the stuff in the background is soo distracting. Pookah is slightly out of focus, I head chopped CDub.

But it’s one of my favorite photos. I printed it out.  I was proud of this one. Still am.

And THIS is one I took this week.

The photo was taken in RAW format.  In the middle of the day. I still have issues with composition and distraction in the background( that pole anyone?)  But it’s better. MUCH better. And I did for myself what my camera did last year since I shot in manual.  My settings: ISO 200, F/3.2, SS 1/2500. Taken with my 50mm 1.4 lens.

(yes, the child has on that t shirt again. He loves it. He insists..I’ll be glad when it falls apart…)

I have come a LONG way baby.

I can’t wait to see where I am next year!

I see improvement. A ton! But the shot from last year is great too. I can see why its a favorite. Pookah looks so tiny in that shot. Congratulations on all your improvement and thanks so much for linking up!

On the untrained eye, the picture of CDub & Pookah is just fine, but since you pointed everything out I get it. I will definitely take a class when I get my camera. It’s worth it for the price you pay for a camera.

I really need to learn how to use my camera better. FYI – both pictures are gorgeous, but that’s because the subjects are so adorable!

    Stopping by from SITS.

It is so strange that I do not know how to use many of the features on my camera. I really need to get with it. I can really see the difference in your photos. I need to learn the lingo too!

    awesome! you have really progressed!

i still don’t shoot in full manual (call me lazy), i’m an aperture mode girl, myself. but high five on the full manual!

a lower aperture will help with the blurred backgrounds (bokeh). you’ve got a powerful lens!! *drool*

shooting little ones can be a little tough which is why i think i stick with aperture mode (to beautify what i can get with my kids) so don’t knock yourself on composition! i think you did great!!!
