Just before I had to go to work on Tuesday, I learned that rapper Heavy D had died.
I was crushed.
My heart is heavy.
He was young( only 44), it seemed out of the blue, and I felt like an era was dying with him.
Heavy D reminds me of a time when hip hop was wonderful, fun, and clean.
He reminds of a time when hip hop MEANT something.
He reminds me of high top fades, cross colors, slouch socks, bubble coats, thick gold chains, big earrings with your name in them and asymmetrical hair cuts.
He reminds me of the wop , the prep, and the cabbage patch.
He reminds me of the beginning of BET and Yo MTV Raps.
Hip Hop was a new wonderful world to me then. It was fun, it made sense, it educated, it entertained. I knew the words to EVERY song.
Heavy D was and remained one of my favorites.
“I’m rough and tough and all that stuff,
I make you dance and prance till you huff and puff
There’s just no way you can get enough
Of me, yo Mr Big Stuff…”
Classic Hip Hop Folks.
RIP Heavy D.
You will be missed.

#truth!!!
I was a follower of his on twitter. I think his last tweet was something like be inspired. When I heard I thought of how he would occasionly be on the show bones. I thought it was so great that he was still working on current shows.
I do miss old hip hop.

He will definitely be missed! Heavy D and Kid & Play remind me of fun hip hop too. I was listening to most of Hev's songs the other day and it felt good that I didn't have to worry about censoring anything in front of my kids.

I know right! I couldn't play ANY of the music that comes on the radio in front of Pookah now. Ridiculous.
