So as you all know, yesterday was Pookahs first day at the new daycare.
Unlike the last one, this one wants him to be there by 9 am so that he can participate in “devotion”( yes, it’s a church based daycare). That puts a little strain on me because the new daycare is 10 minutes from the house as opposed to the 2 minutes the last one was. So, I have to rush a little if I worked the night before. I don’t get home until 8.
So anyhoo, I had told C-Dub to just get him dressed so all I would have to do is feed him and we could take him over there. I fed him, and off we went.
What I love about the new place is the nurturing environment. The way they hug Pookah and talk to him like I would. The teacher that he is with when he first gets there is the Grandmother type. Perfect. Pookah responds well to people who hug him and talk to him calmly and softly. Don’t come at my child loud and pushy, he will show his butt!
We took Pookah to his room and there were a few kids running around playing. Pookah stood there just looking for a few minutes while we were introduced, and the next thing I knew, he was gone. Playing with the toys. C-Dub and I waved goodbye and Pookah looked at us like we were crazy for leaving him, but was distracted by a toy.
I went upstairs to finish registering him and to write that HUGE check for fees. And folks kept coming up saying: ”
“Is that your son? He’s so friendly and outgoing!”
Encouraged by this, I went on home and attempted to sleep.
Of course, I didn’t sleep well. It didn’t help that C-Dub came home in the middle of the day wanting some nookie. Sigh. Really?
When it was finally time, I rushed to pick him up.
When I hit the door, the headmistress told said, ” He did good! It’s like he’s always been here! He just fits right in!”
I felt like a weight had come off of my shoulders! I rushed down to his classroom, and there he was calm, playing. He did race to me when he saw me, but was calm and not anxious to go like he had been.
His teacher told me he had an EXCELLENT first day!
She said he was friendly, he followed directions well, ate all of his food AND took a nap!
Wow. I haven’t gotten a good report like that in what feels like forever.
I am so relieved. So thankful.
I just dropped him off for his second day.
I hope it goes just as well as the first!

That is awesome! Its such a huge relief when you feel comfortable with your child being at daycare. Especially when you can see that they're happy!
