So, I get to work this morning.
Dragging as usual.
There are two patients ready for me to see.
My nurse manager says hey we’ve got to go see Mary(human resources)
We go in. The chief executive officer, the head of human resources, and my nurse manager.
Can you guess what happened next?
They laid me off.
Said my position had been eliminated.
Here I am 7 1/2 months pregnant, and they laid me off.
Do you really expect me to get another job at this time?
No one is going to hire a woman who is about to pop in 2 months.
Lord have mercy.
What am I going to do?

Here from LFCA.
My husband was laid off when I was four and a half months pregnant. It was the most stressful time in our lives up until that point (up until our baby passed away). There's already so much uncertainty and nervousness with pregnancy (and hormones!), and adding to that is just cruel. I am so sorry, and hope that you find something soon.

I can't believe they fired you! That's just wrong. Did they even give you a severance package? Definitely look into discrimination and wrongful dismissal. Not sure how it works in the states but in Canada we have major laws against this kind of thing.

Also, find out about how long your medical benefits will go until they term and how much COBRA will cost. COBRA is about 1/3 of what the normal cost is (according to the lawyer I consulted), so I'm waiting for the paperwork to find out just how much that will run me.

Find a lawyer who specializes in employment law and talk to him/her about possible wrongful termination. Most will give you a free consulation. If there's a case, some will take it on contingency.
File for unemployment immediately. Or see if your doctor can put you on disability (that pays more).
Sucks.
My "position was eliminated" on 8/31, so I know sort of how you feel... without the pregnancy, though.
I'm so sorry. :(

Damn that sucks! Really sorry that they did that. Silver lining is that you have some time off prior to baby's arrival and get paid by state unemployment. Can you get med insurance through your husb? They can take you back at your old hospital if you really want to work. Terrible timing!
