Introducing C Dub Jr. or C.J.
Sorry its taken me so long to post details, but life has been hectic.
It all started last Wednesday. I was sitting on an exercise ball, hoping for something, anything, when i felt a little wet. I didn’t really think anything of it since I had been having lots of discharge/bleeding/spotting since the midwife had stripped my membranes. But when I went to the bathroom, my panties were wet. Hmmmmmmmmmm.
But it wasn’t a gush or anything, so I let it go and decided to go to Ross to get some things for Thanksgiving dinner. Plus, my parents and brother were on the way.
I was in Ross when I felt another gush. And this one was definitely a GUSH.
I rushed out of there and when I got home, my underwear was wet, but not wet wet(if you know what I mean). I put on a pad and decided to wait a little while longer.
My parents and brother arrived. C-Dub came home and around 7, I felt a larger gush. I decided that I should at least go get this checked out.
So, C-Dub and I packed up the car, left my family at home with reassurances that we might be back and would call.
Got to triage around 9 pm(I ate dinner first!) and they confirmed what I basically knew:my water had broken.
Sooooo, they put me in a room, and gave me cytotec to induce me since I was still only 1 centimeter.
Well, that didn’t really work. I had a few more cramps than usual, but nothing much. The baby didn’t like it either. His heart rate would go down occasionally, but always came back up.
Finally, in the am around 8 am, they decided to start Pitocin.
The contractions got a little stronger, and I requested some IV pain meds. Got Nubain, and just as I was drifting off, I heard the baby’s heart rate go down. And down. and down. I don’t know how to explain it, but as a L&D nurse, you know that sound, you know what it means. I tried to turn to my side on my own, but by then, my room was filled with nurses and midwives. I was now 3 centimeters and they discovered that I had meconium. Poor baby. But in the end, everything was stable, and we continued on.
Of course, the Nubain had worn off in the excitement and the pain intensified. All I can say is that those little Braxton Hicks that I thought were painful, were nothing, NOTHING in comparison to the pain I was feeling. Wow. I don’t know how people go natural. That is just cruel!!!!!!! So, I decided to get the epidural.
The anesthesiologist came in, and he stuck me 5(count em) 5 times before he got it in. Luckily, he numbed me up really well, so I wasn’t really uncomfortable.
So after that, my parents came by finally and we settled in to wait.
But of course, the baby didn’t cooperate and had a massive deceleration in his heart rate and they called an emergency c section. I thought to myself, oh well. I was amazingly calm, and C-Dub and my family said they were too because I was.
Long story short, my baby boy was born at 1 59 pm on Thanksgiving Day. All 8 lbs 2 oz and 19 inches of him.
I cried and cried when I heard him cry. I was so overjoyed and overwhelmed.
I still am. He looks exactly like C-Dub. EXACTLY. The only thing different is that instead of two dimples he only has one. 🙂
I can’t lie and say my recovery had been easy, but it hasn’t been super hard either. C-Dub has been home and he and my mother have been lots of help. The pain is getting better everyday, and breastfeeding is……..HARD.
Yes, I said it. HARD.
It has gotten much better now that my milk has come in, but when we took CJ to his first Pediatrician visit on Monday, he had lost too much weight! So I’ve been feeding him every 2 hours or whenever he acts interested. Which seems to be all the time. He is either sleep, pooping, or attached to my boob. Yes, I am a cow. Moooooooooooo.
He seems to be better. He is peeing and pooping away now.
Anyway, he is about to wake up and I am not good at typing one handed.
