What I Really Thought

Spoiler, I loved this from almost the first page.

This is the story of two motherless girls who grow into two motherless women and the choices they make because of it.
Starting in Honeysuckle Louisiana, our story then splits, alternating between Atlanta where Vernice goes to college to find security and the family she never had while Annie goes to Memphis to find the mother that abandoned her.

This is a story about sisterhood, found family, sexuality, chosen family, race and grief. Almost every character in this book is shaped by their mother in some way.

When i think of good writing, i think of books like this. Writers Like Tayari Jones. This was thought provoking, entertaining, heartbreaking, realistic, lyrical and so many more things that I just can’t put into words right now.

I know for sure this is going to be one of my top reads of 2026.
