Summer Weekending: Savannah and Tybee Island

Even though we are not able to go on a big trip this summer, I plan on going SOMEWHERE. It’s summertime after all! Do you remember this post when I talked about getaways close to Atlanta? Well, I decided to add another one to the list visit Tybee Island and Savannah this past weekend.

The beach at North Beach Tybee Island last weekend.

It was the perfect summer weekend getaway.

We set out Friday night after work around 7 pm and got to our hotel, the Embassy Suites around 1130 at night.  It was a quick 3 1/2 hour drive to reach Savannah from the Atlanta area.

Saturday morning, after gorging ourselves on the breakfast buffet at the hotel ( seriously, the Embassy Suites has the BEST free hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. ) we set out to Tybee Island and the BEACH!

Can I tell you how relaxing it was? How pretty? How HOT? HOW FUN!

Lucky for us, we got there pretty early in the morning, grabbed a couple of chair and umbrellas and enjoyed ourselves.

By 1 pm, it was not only sweltering, but crowded. And our stomachs were rumbling.

You know our struggle to find gluten-free options when we travel, but I always have the Find Me Gluten Free app and I research a LOT before we leave.

My research led us to The Crab Shack.

Seafood of course, is gluten-free when it’s baked, boiled, steamed etc…unfortunately, my child has no interest in trying it.

But of course, there was roasted chicken and corn on the cob, so he was satisfied.

His Daddy and I  had the Seafood Broil platter for two and…OOOH MMM GEEEE.

The main thing I miss about not living in the DC area anymore is the seafood. The FRESH seafood I should say.

I was STUFFED. I even tried those little crawfish finally…but I’ll stick to lobster and crab thank you very much. *shudders*

CDub, a history buff and well of useful and useless information, dragged us to  Fort Pulaski which is an old fort dating back to the 1800s.

We planned on hitting up Savannah that afternoon, but the way that heat was set up, we decided just to drive around sightseeing while this one…

Passed out.

By the time we got back to the hotel and showered, we decided to have a little Steak and Shake and Chick-Fil-A and call it a night.

Pookah and Cdub got up early the next morning and went to the pool. No photos cause I was still in bed.( Yasssss for the Mommy sleep in).

But after ANOTHER big breakfast, we headed back to Savannah one more time and to Forsyth Park. I wanted a few photos.

It’s so gorgeous. All of that hanging moss and gorgeous Victorian architecture and narrow streets of the historic district.

It reminds me in some ways of New Orleans.

We left Savannah around noon and we were home at 3:30.

With enough time to wash clothes, order pizza and relax.

It was the perfect little getaway!

Have you ever been to Savannah or Tybee Island? What did you think? What would you suggest we do the next time?

Note:All of the photos in this post were taken with my iPhone with my waterproof LifeProof case and my Waterproof Canon Powershot D-20.

How perfect! Looks like you guys had a really good time. I've never been to Savannah but it looks like such a beautiful place. Especially that park. It definitely looks like areas in New Orleans.

I'm glad you all enjoyed and you got a chance to sleep in. Sleeping in is one of the best parts of my vacays. LOL!

I miss Savannah so much, as well as Tybee Island! I lived there for a few years. Try Jykell Island, check out the Sea Turtles and the little Amusement Park. It still feels like a small town. I prefer it over St. Simon Island.

Hm, not sure if my first comment went through. These photos are amazing and it looks like you guys had a lot of fun. I've never been to Savannah, only Atlanta. We are missing the beach this year, maybe we'll be able to go back next summer.

Pookah loves the beach and has been bugging me since CHRISTMAS literally to go to the beach! I'm just glad it wasn't that long of a drive to get there!
