It occurred to me, in light of incidents that happened recently, that sometimes, we need alternatives to mainstream. Last year, I put out a list of coffee shops in Atlanta, but it occurred to me that none of those were black owned. I researched, and I found 5 black owned coffee shops in Atlanta that you need to check out. Not just because you may be boycotting someone…but because they need, want and deserve your business.
5 Black Owned Coffee Shops in Atlanta
Located in East Lake, My Coffee Shop serves breakfast all day along with lunch, pastries and of course, coffee.
Owner Rachel Belfield had dreams of a place where she could take her daughter and have a good cup of coffee and tasty treats. Grant Park Coffeehouse is cozy: serving good coffee, pastries and sandwiches.
Located in West Midtown, Urban Grind is a cool spot that has free Wifi, poetry slams, film screening and good coffee too.
Coffee with a purpose. From the website:
“Our cafe is unapologetically centered on the culture of our people and more specifically, on the historical and current influence of coffee and the coffee trade.”
You can also enjoy coffee, food, free wi-fi, reading material and entertainment. Check it out.
I added this one for my tea lovers and because..I’m starting to enjoy tea in the afternoon. Located in the Sweet Auburn District, this spot is great to relax with a cup of tea or coffee.
I will be adding to this list periodically because I know there are more! In fact, if you know more, add them in the comments!

I've been to My coffee shop and I loved the whole experience there. I have not seen the other ones, even though I have passed by the street a couple of times. I guess when one is in a hurry, one doesn’t stop to admire coffee shops. But I'll be sure to visit whenever I go around there to get good coffee and enjoy the WiFi too. lol.
