One Month!!!

Today was The Pookah’s one month appointment.

I had a loooooooong list of questions based on our first month together.

But first things first:

HE GREW!

He was 19 inches at birth, now he is 21 3/4 inches long.

And my child weighs 11 pounds 8 oz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY GOD!

That’s almost 4 pounds in one month!!!!

So, I get to talking to the Nurse Practitioner/Lactation Consultant about how much he is eating, the gas, the fussiness, the spitting up(only recently).  She says that I have Hyperlactation Syndrome( or Oversupply (OALD).  Basically, I make too much milk.(Isn’t that something?) And when he is feeding, it’s like my breast is a faucet, it just pours out!  I can’t tell you how many shirts I go through a day! Even breast pads don’t help once it gets going.  And both breasts let down at the same time.  it can be annoying.

ANYWAY!

  Symptoms include:

  • noisy nursing, choking, coughing
  • Baby always seems to want to eat
  • severe gas, green or explosive stools
  • excessive weight gain over birth weight by two weeks
  • Mother feels like she could feed the whole neighborhood

We are 100% for all of these symptoms.

So, I’m supposed to:

  •   breastfeed one side per feeding and feed on that side for several feedings
  • aggressive burping, if thrashing remove him from the breast and burp him
  • and lean back when feeding him

So, I’ve been trying this since this morning.  I’ll let you know how it goes.  She says it might help him to sleep better too.  She also gave us some sleeping advice which I will try out and let you all know if it works.

And he may have reflux, but we are waiting for a week to see if these new instructions work before we do anything. 🙁

I can say, he is sleeping right now.  But that’s probably from his shot( the 2nd Hepatitis B).

Well that’s all for now!  I’m off to clean my house while I can!

Wow! Well that answers so many of your questions! Remember back in the good-old pre-baby days when you were worried about breastfeeding? Turns out you're a bit of a rockstar at it! Hope the Dr.'s solutions are helpful. Can't wait to hear how it goes!
