These Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes are soft, fluffy, and so easy to make. The cinnamon-sugar mixture in these homemade donut holes give them the perfect flavor. Perfect for breakfast, dessert or with a hot cup of coffee.

Note: these are not in anyway healthy, these are FRIED so think more Dunkin donuts or like the ones from your local donut shop, right in your home.

But don’t worry, this recipe is easy, simple and will give you the best cinnamon sugar donut holes ever.

Now, before you get started, lets gather all the ingredients that you will need.

  • all purpose flour 1
  • baking powder
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • buttermilk
  • egg
  • granulated sugar
  • vanilla extract
  • melted butter 
  • vegetable oil for deep frying

How to Make Your Donut Holes!

Ok, let’s get started making this amazing treat!

Grab a large bowl. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg and set aside.

In a separate bowl mix your wet ingredients: buttermilk, egg, sugar, vanilla and butter.

Next, slowly pour in the dry ingredients and mix until incorporated. 

In a large stock pot or heavy bottom pot, heat oil on medium high.

Add your batter to a piping bag to get ready to put them directly into the hot oil for deep frying. Use a Large Stock pot or Deep Fryer )

Pipe your small balls of dough DIRECTLY into your heated oil on medium heat . For best results, make sure to pipe in tiny drops of batter. The batter will expand in the oil.

Remove your donut holes with a slotted spoon once they are golden brown and cooked through. Let the donut holes dry on a paper towel on a baking sheet for 2-3 mins in a single layer to help avoid an oily taste in the ones on the bottom.

Let them dry COMPLETELY before you add them in the cinnamon sugar mix.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • Topping option 1
  • 3-5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp per cup of sugar
  • Topping option 2
  • 3 cups granulated sugar 1-2 tbsp cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg to a bowl and set aside. In a separate bowl mix buttermilk, egg, sugar, vanilla and butter.
    Slowly pour in the dry ingredients and mix until incorporated.
  • Add batter to a piping bag
    Pipe dough balls into heated oil on medium high.
    Remove once cooked and let dry on paper towels for 2-3 mins in a single layer
    Toss in cinnamon sugar or cinnamon powdered sugar



Notes

When frying do tiny drops of batter into the oil (the batter will expand in the oil).
This will yield a very large amount of small donut holes. It’s best to let them dry in a single lay- er to help avoid an oily after taste in the ones on the bottom.
Let them dry completely before tossing in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar.
