It’s eggnog season! Eggnog is one of the simple pleasures of the holiday season. I usually wait until the month of December to indulge. But every year, I look forward to grabbing a container of Eggnog from the grocery store to sip in front of the Christmas tree with my mom.
But you know what else I look forward to? Adding the eggnog to my morning cup of coffee.
Except, it never goes well. The sweet flavor I want from a creamer is not there, it’s not creamy enough and unless I add the entire container, it’s just never…enough. And honestly, the store-bought eggnog creamers are never quite right…
So this year when I saw eggnog in the store, I immediately grabbed it with the idea of making my own homemade coffee creamer. Specifically, homemade eggnog creamer.
And friends, this delicious creamer is my new holiday pleasure. And now, it can be yours too.
Homemade Eggnog Coffee Creamer
So this recipe is not for the gourmet cook or for those purists out there. This is for us folks who want our own eggnog creamer and an eggnog latte without paying an arm and a leg. For those of us who don’t have the time to source special ingredients from the farmers market. Please note, this recipe contains dairy.
You only need Five ingredients:
Sweetened condensed Milk
Eggnog ( what ever brand you like. I personally like Southern Comfort and that is what I used in this recipe.)
Half and Half
Rum Extract
Ground Nutmeg
Easy Directions for Homemade Eggnog Coffee Creamer
- Starting with the sweetened condensed milk and ending with the nutmeg, place all the ingredients into a medium mixing bowl or large measuring glass (I used a 4 cup one) and whisk or stir until fully combined.
- Use immediately or store in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.
See? No mess no stress!
Tips
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days (this can vary on how close to out of date your half and half and eggnog are). Use fresh ingredients for best results. I use milk jars with lids or mason jars with lids for mine. I do not suggest freezing as the flavor comes out odd to me.
- Shake before each use.
- Do blend in a blender or you can cause thickening to occur.
- Do not use pudding-based eggnog. These are often called mock eggnog and are most often homemade. This will make the creamer extra thick and cause your coffee to gain a film at the top of it.
- To make this recipe dairy-free, substitute non-dairy eggnogs ( I like Chobani and Almond Breeze’s almond milk eggnog) ) and coconut milk instead of half and half
- Unless you want to be buzzed in the morning, avoid traditional eggnog recipes that have been spiked. I use basic store-bought eggnog.
- If you need to use something other than half and half, opt for whole milk, evaporated milk, or even coconut milk.
The holiday season is one of the few times of the year when it is perfectly acceptable to add eggnog to your coffee. This is a great recipe to help you enjoy your hot coffee with this homemade eggnog creamer in the morning, at family gatherings or all year long if you prefer!
Enjoy!
