Dear Pookah,
I love the way you are fascinated by math. You are always asking me what’s this plus that? How do you do that? I see it as my duty to protect and nurture that love of math. I want you to keep learning, keep wanting to learn and keep being fascinated by the world around you.
I don’t want you to be defeated.
Last week, I had to have a talk with one of your camp teachers. You see, you came home to me defeated. You came home to me saying you couldn’t do it. You came home to me and said you were stupid.
No.
I wanted to weep, what happened to my eager sweet, smart, confident boy? I probed, I listened and I set out to show you that YOU CAN DO IT. All you needed was a little instruction, a little help, a confidence booster.
I explained what you didn’t understand.
I practiced with you.
I showed you that you can do anything you set your mind to.
I gave you the tools to succeed.
And then I went and spoke to that teacher.
I explained to her that YOU were a gift. You are a prize. You are MY child and MY child will not be defeated. He WILL be confident. HE WILL BE TAUGHT.
And he will not come home with his soul crushed like that again.
You have come home every day since then happy, confident..learning.
Mama will always go to bat for you
Mama will always be in your corner
Mama will always be your champion.
Don’t forget it.
Love you.
Mama.

Love it! I remember when my mom went to bat after these teachers. Thankfully I haven't had any problems with but one teacher so far at my kids school. The rest have been excellent and they do what needs to be done.

This is so beautiful. Reading blog posts like this inspires me, and gives me hope that motherhood might be something I want after all :)
