Colored Television: A Novel
9/3
Struggling writer Jane has high hopes that her life is about to turn around. She has just finied her second novel: a centuries-spanning epic her artist husband, Lenny, dubs her “mulatto War and Peace.” Finally, some semblance of stability and success seems to be within her grasp.
But things don't work out quite as hoped. Desperate for a plan B, like countless writers before her Jane turns her gaze to Hollywood. When she finagles a meeting with Hampton Ford, a hot producer with a major development deal at a streaming network, he seems excited to work with a "real writer," and together they begin to develop "the Jackie Robinson of biracial comedies." Things finally seem to be going right for Jane--until they go terribly wrong.

I've seen this book everywhere and it makes me think it's this years Hello Beautiful.
The novel centers around three estranged sisters who reunite after the death of their fourth sibling. As they navigate their personal struggles and confront the ghosts of their past, they grapple with the lingering pain of loss and the enduring bonds of sisterhood.
The story delves into themes of addiction, self-destruction, and the search for meaning in life. Through the sisters' experiences, Mellors offers a nuanced portrayal of the human condition and the ways in which our past can shape our present.

9/24
Tis the most wonderful time of the year. The time of year for holiday rom-coms. LOL.
The story revolves around Sunny Palmer, a part-time adult film actress who accidentally sells a screenplay to a religious network. To gather inspiration, Sunny returns to Christmas Notch, where she encounters Isaac Kelly, a former boy band heartthrob struggling with writer's block. After a night together, Sunny and Isaac find themselves sharing a house and working together to overcome their creative roadblocks. As they navigate their personal and professional challenges, they develop a surprising connection and find themselves falling for each other.
Intermezzo: A Novel
9/24: Sally Rooney is back with a story about two estraned brothers Peter and ivan.
Peter is a successful lawyer; outgoing successful and struggling after the death of his father.
Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the opposite of his older brother.
The books follows them as they work through their grief over the death of their father and struggle with their romantic relationships. Proving that they are not so different after all.
The Message
10/1
Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing,
In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind. Then he takes readers along with him to Columbia, South Carolina, where he reports on his own book’s banning, but also explores the larger backlash to the nation’s recent reckoning with history and the deeply rooted American mythology so visible in that city—a capital of the Confederacy with statues of segregationists looming over its public squares. Finally, in the book’s longest section, Coates travels to Palestine, where he sees with devastating clarity how easily we are misled by nationalist narratives, and the tragedy that lies in the clash between the stories we tell and the reality of life on the ground.
