I’m so excited to work with Vaseline to share ways to practice self-care this winter. As usual, all opinions are my own.
Winter is here and I don’t know about you, but sometimes I look out on a dreary cold day and I miss the warmth of the sun. It’s easy to just hibernate in the winter time and wait until spring to do anything. But now, in the winter, is the best time to take the time to take care of you. I’m a nurse, I know these things. But knowing and practicing are two different things. But in the same idea of thriving this year, I’m taking the time to find ways to practice self-care this winter. Here are 3 ways you can do it too.
1.Buy Flowers
I’ve talked about buying flowers as one of my ways to practice self-care before. It’s like bringing spring to your house. Every day. Every morning, I open my blinds, let whatever sunlight there is in and enjoy my flowers while drinking my coffee. I have them in every room. It’s mood lifting to walk past a vase of pretty cut flowers everyday. You just have to smile.
2. Color.
Yes Color. There is something so simple, so calming about coloring. When coloring, my mind tends to wonder and calm down while I create. Its’ a great way to practice self-care and it’s fun too.
3. Take care of your skin
I don’t know about you, but my skin gets extra dry in the winter time. It has been easy to get caught up in not taking care of my skin due to the demands of life, which has been leaving it dry and itchy. I’ve been using the peace of relaxation of weekly bath time as one of my self-care acts this month, but during the winter time, my skin is quick to dry out. I’ve started using Vaseline® Intensive Care™ Essential Healing Lotion to help. It leaves my skin deeply moisturized and looking noticeably healthier. Vaseline products were a staple in my household growing up, and now it helps keep my families skin healthy and moisturized too. My dry skin needs the deep healing moisturizers contained in Vaseline® Essential Healing. I use it everyday as a part of my vow to practice self-care for my skin, and for the skin of my family. All Vaseline® Intensive Care® lotions can be used daily and are available at Walmart and other food, drug and mass retailers nationwide.
4. Keep a Journal
Journaling is one the best and easiest ways to practice self-care. There is something almost magical about taking whatever is in your head and just pouring it all on a piece of paper. A journal is the place to be you. No judgment, no labels, and no expectations other than just getting all of those emotions and thoughts in your head onto the page. It can be cathartic. It’s therapy in a book. Journaling has always helped me to get those thoughts out that I am afraid to say out loud or even haven’t really thought through. But I get them out of my head. A journaling session is one of the easiest ways to cultivate your well-being. And it’s cheap. Just buy any notebook and get started. You won’t regret it.
5. Take Yourself on a Date
You may feel awkward at first, but seriously try it. You don’t have to go at night to a 5-star restaurant, but you can. If that is too much for you, try taking yourself to breakfast, or lunch or to a movie. Do you love that fast food restaurant but no one but you wants to eat there? DO IT! Is there an artsy subtitled movie that only you want to see? TREAT YO SELF. I look forward to my date with myself and I try to do this once a month on my day off.
Self-care in this day and age IS SO IMPORTANT. Take the time to take care of yourself. Try one of these 5 tips or make up one of your own. But just do it!

My husband gave me a coloring book last Christmas, I only used it once so far.\. I should get into it.

It's amazing how fresh flowers can really brighten your mood. Just looking at them makes me feel better when it's dreary and cold.
