in total, I read 10 Books in July. But I’m only going to talk about 6. It was a romance heavy month with One fiction, one Fantasy and 8 romance novels. Just how summer should be.
Here are my favorites.
6 Books That I Read in July
Not in Love
This was a different Ali Hazelwood book than we are used to. But I like my expectations shaken up a little from time to time.
THIS IS NOT A ROM COM.
Its not even a Stem based romance. It's just two smart people ( one who is very socially awkward) who reluctantly fall in love. It's not enemies to lovers. It's not even really forbidden romance. It's just...a sexual relationship that evolves into a real relationship and has complications. It took me a minute to really get into it.
I loved the dual point of view but it also kind of threw me that Rue's was in 1st person and Eli's was in 3rd. But it did help distinguish the two.ALL of this to say that in the end, I enjoyed the book and the story and the romance much more than I thought I would even when I was halfway through the book.
In the end I'm giving it a 3.75
Business Casual (Lovelight)
I could not wait to return to Lovelight Farm and this book did not disappoint.
This book is a part of a series, but can for sure be read as a standalone.I've always accidentally found myself reading the lovelight farms series and I've enjoyed each one.
This one has all of my favs: small town, opposite attract, grumpy/sunshine ( shes the grump) and .he falls first.I absolutely loved this book. Nova and Charlie were perfect for each other and I loved seeing them find their way towards each other. I feel like this book was one big giant hug ( with steam) '.It was both familiar and new and I enjoyed every minute of reading it.Im so sad the series is ending!!!
A solid 4 stars for me.
The Ministry of Time: A Novel
I was intrigued by the premise of this book and finally gave in to read it.
Part sci fi part time travel part slow-burn romance...it's a lot LOL.But I read it in one sitting. And even though I had my doubts during parts of the book, I found myself really enjoying it!
The twist about 80% through the book threw me and had me saying WHAT out loud in a crowded airport. The ending...I would have liked a little bit more? But it works. All in all, I enjoyed it. Not my usual book but I enjoyed it and will recommend... by saying it's slow...but stick with it.
4/5 Stars
The Black Bird Oracle: A Novel (All Souls Series)
After 6 years of waiting to see if the story of the witch Diana and the vampire Matthew and their bright-born twins and joined families, we have returned!!!
I think that this was the best book since maybe the first one.I am one of the rare people who loved all three of the original series and elevated my opinion of Times Convert after about 3 re-reads.
The BlackBird Oracle was excellent. We stayed in the present except for flashbacks and met a whole new cast of characters while visiting with old ones. There was action, a steady pace, and even after all the years, a spicy scene that had me clutching my pearls just a bit.I loved every minute of it and CANNOT WAIT to read the next book because it's obvious...another is coming.
5/5 stars
Northern Lights
This was a re-read.
This is what I like to think of as Peak Nora Roberts: good story telling, mystery, love, open door romance but not too spicy.Northern lights has always been my favorite because of the way she handled Nate’s depression and watching how he came alive slowly again. and how she made you feel like you were in Alaska with the imagery. You could really understand why it helped Nate. Also with Meg.Loved loved loved
4/5
Play Along (Windy City Series Book 4)
I have been waiting for this one!
I could not wait to read the tale of Kennedy and Isaiah. I've loved Isiah's obsession with Kennedy since the last book. He's the golden retriever/sunshine, she's the grumpy.
Since the reverse grumpy sunshine troupes is one of my favorites I loved every minute of their banter! this book was emotional, spicy, and sweet. Plus, Liz Tomforde writes a really good romance novel. With an actual plot AND smut. My favorite combo.
4/5 stars
