When we first find ourselves with lots of time on our hands, we glory in it. We do all the things we say we will do, watch all the things, nap. But soon, that passes and we find ourselves..bored. There comes a time when you have exhausted all of those activities that you thought you wanted to do only to find yourself WITH NOTHING TO DO.
I know a lot of us never have the time to be bored. But just in case you find yourself…bored at home and need to pass the time, I’ve got a few ideas for things to do when you are bored.
Indoor Activities to do when you are bored
Join a Virtual book club or a book challenge
Get a new book every month from a site like Book of the Month, Do a Goodreads challenge ( a challenge where you read a certain amount of books a year) Or join or create an online book club with your friends.
Color
Yes, adults color too! Order fun coloring books on Amazon or download an app like Colorfy to color right on your phone.
Take an online class
There are a ton of classes available online! You can even take classes from many of the Ivy Leagues right now for FREE
Write or call a friend
Send a letter instead of an email. Or better yet, call! When was the last time you actually pushed the CALL button and actually talked to a friend rather than text?
Learn a New Language
Yes, you heard me! Remember those commercials for Rosetta Stone? Well, now is the time. I think I might consider learning…Italian. Because why not?
Fun things to Do At Home
Watch all the Marvel Movies in order

Play video games
Games aren’t just for gamers. The SIMS has been around forever and is a fun way to pass the time. And if you are feeling adventurous, take on a game of Fortnite with your kid!
Learn a new dance on Tik Tok
Desperate times call for desperate measures. However! This is a fun activity for parents to do with their kids. They love to show us how to do their “thing” .
Visit a Museum..online
There are several museums and national sites like the Smithsonian and The Louvre that provide virtual tours. Check out more virtual museums here.
Learn a new skill
Try a website like Skillshare, where you can learn everything from how to embroider, to how to mix cocktails, playing a new instrument to how to make french macaroons.
Creative ideas for when you are bored
Make a Photo Book or start scrapbooking
How many times have you said to yourself that you are going to print out and put together those photos from a trip? Now is the perfect time to organize the photos from that Disney trip or your last family vacation. And don’t count out scrapbooking! It’s a great way to document your everyday.
Start a Blog or A Youtube Channel
If you want a creative outlet, start a blog or a youtube channel. If you are a writer or love to share videos, this option is for you.
Bake something new
This is the perfect time to try out a new recipe for cakes, cookies, scones, pastries etc.
Redecorate a room
Because why not? Redecorate your bedroom: paint, order new furniture etc! Or just refresh one by moving around the furniture. A new layout can make you feel like you have a brand new room.
Start a gratitude journal
Taking the time every day to document what you are grateful for is a great way to start your day. Starting a gratitude journal can not only take the boredom away but can start a habit that makes you feel good.
Stress-relieving Activities
Take a bubble bath
Nothing is more relaxing than warm water and bubbles. This is a perfect stress relieving boredom buster.
Workout
Working out is not only a stress reliever, but it also keeps you in shape! Between youtube, apps like the Peloton App, Beachbody on Demand, Nike Training App and more can keep you active!
Try a Meditation app
Meditation is a great way to beat boredom and release stress. The Calm App and Headspace are two great options.
Do a face mask
Whether it’s one you found online, or one you are making from home, a facemask is a great way to relax.
Sleep
Yes sleep. We really don’t need to always be on the go. Naps are a great way to relieve stress and feel better.
Organizing Ideas
Clean out your closet
Taking on the project of Marie Kondoing your closet is always a good idea. Give those clothes to goodwill or sell them on Poshmark
Clean out that junk drawer
We all have that one drawer where everything goes. Now is the perfect time to clean and organize it!
Clean out your inbox
You know that email inbox that is overflowing with old emails, newsletters you forgot you are subscribed to and just junk? Clean it out!
Organize the apps on your phone
If you are like me, you download apps all the time and then never use them. Or you replace and old app with a new one. That leaves a ton of unused apps on your phone just taking up space.
Organize the photos on your phone
Listen. At the time of writing this post, I have 62, 431 photos on my phone. That’s too much! The perfect activity is to organize, back up and delete unnecessary photos on our phones!
Things to do Outside
Start a Garden
Its the perfect time to start a vegetable garden or an herb garden!
Have a picnic in the yard
Enjoying a meal outside is always fun, turn it into a picnic, complete with a glass of wine if you want!
Swing in a hammock
Nothing is more relaxing than taking a nap in a hammock.
Enjoy your patio or front porch
We have these outdoor spaces, and it’s time to use them. Clean off that patio, set up your front porch and enjoy a book in that space.
Campout in the back yard.
Your kids will love you forever! Camping out in the backyard has the added benefit of being near the house just in case you need something.
Learn how to do nothing
And sometimes, we just need to learn the art of doing nothing. Sometimes just sitting still is the answer.
